Often imitated, never bettered, the Marvel Zombies were a revelation when they hit the scene in 2005.

Helmed by no less than Walking Dead creator Robert Kirkman, the series was an instant hit, transforming Marvel favourites into bloodthirsty zombies. Although Kirkman killed off most of them by the end of the first miniseries, the book proved popular enough that it kept going, long after that point.

Indeed, the Marvel Zombies' horror bona fides were so legitimate that they found themselves at war with Bruce Campbell's Ash Williams - of Evil Dead fame - in the 2007 crossover Army of Darkness vs Marvel Zombies. In true Ash style, it was revealed that El Jefe was present for the very inception of it all. Very groovy.
