10 Insane Times Heroes Became Horror Villains

2. Batman - Crimson Mist

Vampire Batman Murders Scarecrow
DC Comics

Turned vampire during his battle with Dracula in Batman vs Dracula: Red Rain, this Elseworlds version of the Bat made a good fist of keeping the bloodlust under control. But once he satiated those urges (drinking on the blood of the Joker, no less), the floodgates were well and truly opened - unleashing the most terrifying alternate universe Batman we've ever seen.

The Batman of Red Mist may have fed only on the blood of killers and criminals, but the brutality with which he committed to his bit was something else, putting even Dracula to shame. Cornered by the combined might of Alfred, the Commissioner, Two-Face and Killer Croc, Batman achieved some redemption in death - but not before slaughtering every single one of his recurring foes; betraying everything that the mantle of the Bat once stood for.
