10 Insane Times Heroes Became Horror Villains

7. The Hulk - The Immortal Hulk

Vampire Batman Murders Scarecrow
Marvel Comics/Joe Bennett

To quote the book itself: You’d never notice the man. He doesn’t like to be noticed. He’s quiet. Calm. Never complains. If someone were to walk up and shoot him in the head... all he’d do is die. Until night falls. And someone else gets up again. The man’s name is Banner. The horror is THE IMMORTAL HULK.

The most recent iteration of the Hulk re-imagines him as a creature from beyond the grave - only Hulking out at night, whenever Bruce Banner is killed. Which, as it happens, is a fairly regular occurrence. This sinister, more intelligent Hulk is less angry, more mean, driven by vengeance and pursued by mad scientists, demons and his own inner trauma.

Never has the Hulk seemed more monstrous than the book's opening issue, in which he hunts down those responsible for a robbery gone wrong, acting like something out of Tales From the Crypt or Creepshow, rather than the rage monster fans are more familiar with.
