10 Insane Times Superheroes Developed New Powers
8. Spider-Man
Spider-Man received a significant upgrade in terms of powers back in 1984's Secret Wars crossover event. It all came in the form of a new costume, which wouldn't typically mean an increase in powers, but this was something of a special suit.
When Spider-Man donned the black goo he stepped in while running about Battleworld, it formed around his body and replaced his tattered blue and red duds with an entirely new black costume with a large white spider-logo on the front and back. This was a big deal when it happened, since it was the first major costume change for the character since he was created.
This wasn't just a new look though - the costume came with a ton of new features. It essentially added the ability to shapeshift Spider-Man's clothing so he no longer needed to web up his street clothes when he changed into his costume. It also enabled him to shoot an inexhaustible supply of stronger webbing without web cartridges, and that made life much easier for our Friendly Neighborhood web-slinger.
Of course, as we all know by now, the costume was actually a sentient living being who wanted to bond permanently with Peter Parker. He was able to cast if off, but doing so resulted in the creation of Venom and a slew of other deadly symbiotes.
