10 Insane Times Superheroes Developed New Powers

7. Angel

Daredevil God Without Fear
Marvel Comics

Warren Worthington III was one of the founding members of the X-Men who flew with the team for years. When you look back at the character, he wasn't exactly the most powerful member of the Mutant team. His original power-set included flight and an enhanced physique, but that was about it.

Eventually, he got a sort of upgrade from the supervillain Apocalypse. Soon after his wings are broken and amputated, Apocalypse transports him to his location and offers to replace his wings if he becomes one of his Four Horsemen. Warren accepted and was reborn as Archangel.

In many ways, Archangel was an entirely new character. His skin was altered to become blue, and he was given organic metal wings capable of slicing through nearly any material, as well as shoot off metal feathers as a projectile weapon.

For a time, he acts as "Death" for Apocalypse and combats his former allies on X-Factor, but he eventually comes home to the side of good. The event changed the character from that point forward by making him more of a brooding and dark individual. Eventually, he was returned to his original-ish form, but he's gone back and forth between Angel and Archangel several times over the years.
