10 Insane Times Superheroes Developed New Powers

3. Jean Grey

Daredevil God Without Fear
Marvel Comics

Jean Grey is another character who has never been lacking in powers of her own. She is one of the most powerful telepathic beings on Earth, but had much of her power locked behind mental blocks by Professor Xavier. Eventually, those blocks degraded, and her true power came out.

Because she is so powerful, she attracted the attention of the cosmic entity responsible for all life and rebirth in the universe: the Phoenix Force. When it found Jean, it bonded with her and boosted her powers to cosmic levels. She went from being one of the most powerful people on Earth to one of the most powerful beings in the entire universe.

With the Phoenix empowering her, Jean became the Dark Phoenix, and she didn't play well with her old friends. She quickly beat the X-Men and flew to the faraway D'Bari star system to recover her energy. In doing so, she destroyed the star and all the billions of inhabitants on the fourth planet.

The level of power Jean gained by becoming the Dark Phoenix is almost impossible to quantify. She could manipulate matter and energy at the atomic level, and she gained cosmic awareness and life-force manipulation.
