10 Justice League Moments That Shocked The World

5. The Team Disbands - JLA #119-120 (2005)

Endgame Superman
DC Comics

The Justice League isn't the world's greatest superteam just because of their powers and resourcefulness. What makes the team special is their ability to stay strong under any circumstance. Even when there are disagreements, betrayals, or teammates come to blows, they stick together.

But when the Infinite Crisis occurred, the League was pushed to their absolute limit. During this time, Maxwell Lord brainwashed Superman, causing him to nearly kill Batman. To prevent Superman from taking an innocent life, Wonder Woman killed Lord, causing her teammates to turn against her.

At the same time, Batman discovered Zatanna had used her magical powers to lobotomise supervillains. When Bats confronted her, he mindwiped him. Not only that, the rest of the League were aware of this but chose to do nothing. When Batman learned this, he said he felt like his friends betrayed him and thus, abandoned the League.

To cap it all off, an unknown assailant blew up the Watchtower while Martian Manhunter was still inside, seemingly killing him. When Green Arrow accused Batman of destroying the base, it was clear all trust had disappeared from the team and so, the League officially disbanded.
