10 Lame Comic Book Villains (Who Are Actually Incredibly Powerful)

3. The Mauler Twins

Sportsmaster DC Comics
Image Comics

It turns out lameness is not exclusive to the two biggest brands in superhero comics. The Mauler Twins are prominent villains for Image Comics' Invincible. Unfortunately, their prominence is mostly due to how pathetic they are.

A genius bio-engineer, the original Mauler gave himself enhanced physical strength and then made a perfect clone of himself. So perfect, in fact, that the clone believed himself the original Mauler.

This set in motion a running joke that makes up the majority of their personalities; neither of them know for sure who's the clone and who's the original, leading them to constantly argue about it.

But, instead of this being a profound analysis of the nature of identity, it's played up for laughs. It's also a recurring gag that, for all their brilliance in bio-chemistry, the Mauler Twins are prone to improvising their scientific exploits. They are introduced to the series attempting to rob a game store, as they intended to use the parts from gaming consoles to build an army of robots.

And yet their bumbling and comic nature don't stop them from being incredibly powerful. Both have gone toe-to-toe with the strongest beings in their world and survived. Their intellect, while occasionally waylaid by their own arrogance, is still quite impressive and their engineering feats speak for themselves. On top of that, they have been singled out to help Invincible's more central villains for their technical skills several times.
