10 Marvel Characters Who Became Ghost Rider

1. Johnny Blaze

Cosmic Ghost Rider Frank Castle
Marvel Comics

Johnny Blaze was the first Ghost Rider introduced to the Marvel Universe (though the third chronologically). While there have been others to take on the mantle of the Ghost Rider since he was introduced, he's still kicking around the Marvel Universe as a powerful Spirit of Vengeance.

Blaze was a daredevil who grew up in the carnival where people appreciated his love for daring stunts on his motorcycle. He went on to join a traveling stunt show alongside Crash Simoson who was dying of cancer. When Blaze learned of this, he turned to the occult to seek a cure... as one does in comic books.

In an attempt to summon Satan, he accidentally calls forth Mephisto who agrees to help him for Blaze's soul. Crash ended up dying anyways in a stunt, which led to Blaze confronting Mephisto. He was able to keep his soul due to some trickery but ended up getting bonded to the demon Zarathos as an act of revenge by Mephisto. This led to his becoming the Ghost Rider.

Initially, he was forced to punish people with evil souls as the Ghost Rider, but he retained his personality and would help the innocent whenever they were in danger.
