10 Marvel Event Comics That Actually Lived Up To The Hype

8. Civil War

The superhero civil war was almost inevitable. Following on from the destructive events of Avengers: Disassembled and House of M, public opinion of enhanced heroes was at an all-time low.

The Superhero Registration Act seemed like the perfect answer, offering the heroes regular income in return for accountability. However, not everyone agreed that being under the government's thumb would work.

The resulting story is one of Marvel's biggest events to date, as well as being one of the most successful. As an absolute must-read book, Civil War went on to spawn one of the MCU's best films, as well as the 2016 comic sequel, Civil War II.

However, the initial release of this classic story was less than straightforward. The story suffered multiple delays mid-way through, causing a ripple effect across nearly all of Marvel's other titles.

Yet, despite the bumpy release schedule, the hype never once died down as fans were desperate to see the resolution.

There's no doubt that, if the story didn't exceed expectations with each issue, the delays would have sent Civil War into the bargain bin, instead it's become one of comic's most recommended books.
