10 Marvel Event Comics That Actually Lived Up To The Hype

Fresh off his phenomenal run on Ultimate Spider-Man, Marvel handed the Avengers future over to Brian Michael Bendis. While most would be excited by the idea of heading the Earth's mightiest heroes, Bendis seemed a little... murdery.

Starting with Avengers: Disassembled, Bendis turned the Marvel universe upside, killing off some fan favourite Avengers before leaving the team completely destroyed at the hands of Wanda Maximoff. Then, as if that disastrous storyline wasn't enough, Bendis turned his focus to mutants.

Taking place a few months after the events of Disassembled, Wanda was taken into custody by her father, who was living in the remains of Genosha. As the remaining Avengers and X-Men came to blows over her fate, Bendis teased an event that would "shake the world and break the Internet wide open".

It was a bold claim for sure, but it certainly managed to grab readers attention. The first two issues were the highest selling books that month and remained in the top five for the entire run.

It's now one of the most recommended stories for new and old comic fans and it's well deserving of the immense praise it receives.
