When his owner became too sick to care for him, poor Bats had a hard time trying to find a forever home again and ended up being left in the care of a veterinarian in New York City. This old dog's life was about change, as this was no ordinary vet.

For a brief time, Loki was appointed Sorcerer Supreme. To fill his time, Strange opened a clinic, where a certain old boy was left. Strange being Strange, he cast a spell to translate the dog's barks into English, to the shock of his customers.

Sadly, being the pet of one of the most powerful sorcerers in the universe is a dangerous affair. After giving Loki a piece of his mind, poor Bats suffered another heart attack. This one, he wouldn't survive.

When Strange reclaimed the cape, Loki had a rare moment of remorse and before he was banished, granted Strange a gift in an attempt to apologise for Bats' death. No sooner had the God of Mischief disappeared, a familiar voice spoke.

Since then, Bats has been a very good ghost boy guarding the Sanctum Sanctorum with his signature dead-pan sarcasm, much to the disapproval of literally everyone who enters.
