Storm is one of the most powerful members of the X-Men. She’s played the role of a queen, goddess, leader, warrior and teacher. Yet for all her strength, she’s been made to feel powerless because of intense claustrophobia.

Storm’s trauma stems from a childhood incident that involved the death of her parents. When she was six years old, Storm’s parents were killed in a military aircraft attack that sent the plane crashing into their home. Buried in the ruins of her house, Storm developed an intense fear of small spaces.

As she grew up, Storm’s claustrophobia manifested in panic attacks. The only way she could feel better is if she could see the sky.

A defining moment occurred when Storm travelled into the New York underground to rescue her teammate, Angel, from The Morlocks. This was the first time she managed to overcome her claustrophobia, which demonstrated Storm’s incredible resolve in the face of overwhelming circumstances.
