10 Marvel Supervillains Who Almost Destroyed The Avengers
8. Taskmaster
Taskmaster is an interesting character in Marvel comics history. At various points in time, he has been a supervillain, an anti-hero, an accomplice of the Avengers and a mentor to other supervillains, so he's got a full resume to say the least.
Essentially, his shtick is a superpowered memory, allowing him to take in and retain inhuman amounts of information, including everything from simple knowledge to muscle memory that allows him to mimic anyone he's fighting.
Beginning in his comic debut, Avengers #195, Taskmaster's initial arc saw him running the Solomon Institute for the Criminally Insane when the Avengers attempt to infiltrate it. With the team first sending in Ant-Man, the Wasp, and Yellowjacket as scouts, Taskmaster quickly finds them in their shrunken forms and holds them hostage.
Even once the rest of the team showed up, Taskmaster proved more than capable of defeating them, able to best Iron Man and Captain America in a fight simultaneously. However, he was ultimately defeated by Jocasta, Ultron's robot bride. He was unable to use his muscle memory powers against her because she was inhuman, leading to him not being able to read her body language or predict her movements.
