10 Massively Underrated DC Villains

6. Count Vertigo

The prophetically named Count Werner Vertigo was born with an inner ear defect that affected his balance. He was implanted with a device that corrected the fault and also had the neat extra of causing extreme vertigo in other people.

Werner decided to use his powers to turn to crime. However, it was actually for a more noble purpose than most criminals. Werner is the count of the small European country of Vlatava. He became a supervillain to steal back his family's jewel's that they'd been forced to sell during a war.

And yes, that does mean his supervillain name was just his actual title.

Count Vertigo joined the Suicide Squad. In a surprisingly deep storyline, he discovered that he had bipolar disorder and had to learn how to deal with mood swings and his own suicidal tendencies. After that, he became a more anti-heroic figure and eventually joined the international spy agency Checkmate.

When the New 52 rebooted continuity, Count Vertigo reappeared as a crime-lord enemy of Green Arrow. He still had his powers, but his real name had been changed to Werner Zytle.

Two different versions of Count Vertigo also appeared on Arrow. However, instead of having the powers of the comic version, they both used drugs to disorient their victims.

I was just a mild-mannered NCTJ accredited journalist until one day I found out the truth... that I could share my nerdy ramblings with people on the internet! It's just like mumbling to myself on the train, but without all the strange looks.
