10 Massively Underrated Marvel Villains
4. Juggernaut
The X-Men often act more like a family than a normal superhero team. The Juggernaut completely throws that concept back in their face.
Cain Marko is the jealous step-brother of Charles Xavier who found a gem in a temple dedicated to the god Cyttorak. When he touched the gem, he became the Juggernaut, Cyttorak's avatar on Earth.
Since then, Juggernaut has used his powers to terrorise Xavier and his X-Men (and occasionally Spider-Man, the Hulk and Thor too) and has proved to be one of their deadliest foes. His powers make him strong enough to move mountains and invulnerable to any physical attack. Once the Juggernaut starts moving, he can't be stopped.
The only ways to beat him are to remove the helmet that protects him from psychic attacks or to find a way to trap him, such as dropping him into setting concrete.
Unfortunately, despite being one of the strongest beings on the planet, Juggernaut if often relegated to acting as the dumb muscle for smarter villains like Magneto or Black Tom Cassidy.
What also makes Juggernaut interesting is his tragic conflict of character. Cain has often sought redemption for his past actions and even joined the superhero team Excalibur. However, Cyttorak is a god of destruction and so the only way for Juggernaut to keep his powers is to turn back to villainy.
