10 Mind-Blowing Facts About Iron Man

4. Avenger Or Villain?

Invincible Iron Man
Marvel Comics

Iron Man may be one of Marvel's greatest heroes but he's also been one of its greatest villains. Well OK, maybe one of its most above-average villains. Like, better than Batroc the Leaper, but he's no Doctor Doom.

Anyway, Tony Stark's most recent turn to villainy was in the series Superior Iron Man. After his personality was inverted thanks to magical gubbins (the technical term), Tony became a ruthless egomaniac. Moving to San Francisco he launched a new version of Extremis through the most devious medium of all, apps. At first Extremis 3.0 seemed great, granting people health, beauty and immortality for free. The catch was that was only the trial period. Afterwards the app cost nearly $100 a day, driving people to desperate measures to keep it. It's a surprisingly good series for such a silly concept.

Superior Iron Man was undone following the universal reboot of Secret Wars but it wasn't the first time Tony Stark broke bad.

During the 90's Avengers story 'The Crossing', it was revealed that Iron Man had been controlled by the time-travelling despot Kang for years. Iron Man turned on his teammates and the only way for them to defeat him was to recruit another version of Tony Stark.

What other version of Tony Stark you ask?
