10 Mind-Blowing Facts You Didn't Know About Captain America
3. Punching Hitler
Some comic book covers are so good, they have become iconic. Superman lifting a car. Batman swinging through Gotham. And who could forget Cap's debut comic showcasing the title hero socking Adolf Hitler in the jaw? Even though there has been tons of fantastic pictures of Cap in the comics over the years, this is the most famous one. It's so well-known, it was incorporated into Captain America: The First Avenger.
But here's the thing; Cap never punches the Fuhrer in this story. This isn't just misleading; it's a complete lie since the cover reads, "Smashing 'thru, Captain America came face to face with Hitler."
Obviously, the image of Cap knocking out Hitler in the first issue was meant to be symbolic, showing that the United States stood against the Nazi Party's actions in World War II.
Having said that, the confrontation between Captain America and Hitler DID happen in the following issue! When Cap and Bucky corner the Nazi leader, he ran at the duo, only to be clobbered unconscious with one punch. Why Winghead didn't have Hitler arrested then and there is anyone's guess.
