10 Mistakes Non-Comic Book Fans Make About Comic Books

6. Thinking Batman Is A Camp-Fest

The 1960s television adaptation of Batman, starring Adam West in the titular role, was a feast of camp characters, behaviour and costumes. As many people have been exposed to this show, a large number of them think that Batman in the comic books exactly the same - of course, they are wrong. And this notion extends to a wider scale, acting as an analogy to a bigger point. If you watched the Hulk television series of the 1970s and 1980s, with Bill Bixby and Lou Ferrigno starring as David Banner and the Hulk respectively, you might think the comic book Hulk is strong enough to push a tank and that's his limit. Comic book Hulk has lifted millions of tonnes and destroyed large asteroids using his strength - he is much stronger than the television version. Essentially, the point here is that non-comic book fans often make the mistake of thinking that non-comic adaptations are true depictions of the source material - and that isn't the case at all. In fact, adaptations in other media are often completely different to the comic books.
