Immortal Hulk managed to be a comic that the Hulk has needed for roughly ten years or so; terrifying and dark, while also witty and emotional, as well as accessible to those not well versed in the wild world of the jolly green menace.

Importantly, the series also served to explain and explore an absolutely vital new fact about Banner and his olive alter-ego - namely, that the pair cannot die, being constantly reanimated due to one of the Hulk's hidden abilities. With Banner having been killed two years before this series in Civil War II, this detail managed to make the Hulk's reappearance feel like an exciting and explainable part of the character's history, instead of one of the many lame and overused explanations that usually bring a character back from the dead.

With the Hulk so often being considered a boring character who just punches things, Immortal Hulk goes above and beyond in order to make it clear that the Hulk is one of Marvel's most exciting and unpredictable figures - especially now that he can't die.
