In the Ultimate Universe, Doctor Doom initiated a series of events that inspired Magneto to launch untold devastation upon the world, killing millions. Because Reed had several opportunities to kill Doom, he blamed himself for Magneto's global attack.

Months later, the time-traveller, Kang, visited Reed and informed him that his reality would end and he was the only one that could save it. Believing this was the only way to redeem himself, Reed promised to do anything to save the world, even if it meant playing the role of the villain. Reed attacked the Baxter Building, the Triskelion, nearly killed Sue Storm, blew up Peter Parker's house, and wiped out half of Europe, believing this would make the world better... somehow.

Upon researching Kang's claims, Reed determined that every universe would collide into each other until there was only one left. Reed reasoned the only way to stop his world from ending was to destroy the other universes preemptively.

In Avengers #41, Reed learned he had been personally responsible for the annihilation of 67 universes. Although Reed insisted he had only committed such atrocities to ensure his survival, he acknowledged his actions were utterly malevolent.
