7. Leather Boy Commits "Unnatural Acts" On Monkey Joe Before Murdering Him

The Punisher Black
Marvel Comics

Monkey Joe had been at the side of Squirrel Girl since her first appearance back in 1991's Marvel Super-Heroes Vol. 2 #8. So, when the furry sidekick was killed off in G.L.A. #3 in 2005, it was a jarring moment for readers.

That death obviously left Squirrel Girl devastated, but even more troubling was the manner in which Doreen's long-standing BFF was offed.

As is explained to the audience, rejected Great Lakes Avengers (and perennial D-list rogue) Leather Boy carried out "unnatural acts" on Monkey Joe before stamping on the poor squirrel's brain.

Death in comics is always a rough, emotional subject, and likewise the death of an animal is a doubly rough, emotional subject. But to have it insinuated that Leather Boy had his wicked way with little Monkey Joe before the creature was murdered, that makes matters all kinds of disturbing.

To add to the 'performance' element of this sadistic act, Leather Boy also carried out this assault while dressed up in a replica Doctor Doom outfit, merely for his own personal amusement and to further get his kicks.
