2. Superman/Tarzan: Sons Of The Jungle

Batman the Button
DC Comics/Dark Horse

Over the years, there have been many "what ifs" in regard to Superman and his origin story, not unlike what DC has done with Batman in the aforementioned Dark Nights: Metal series.

We've seen what Superman would have been like had his ship skipped Smallville and crashed straight into Metropolis, as well as what he would have been like had he crashed in the Soviet Union. However, the strangeness of these stories pales in comparison to that of Superman/Tarzan: Sons of the Jungle, which posed the question: "what if Superman switched lives with John Clayton, Viscount Greystoke?".

In this crossover comic's alternate timeline, Superman's ship crashed in the African jungle, where he was raised as the Lord of the Jungle in Tarzan's stead. Meanwhile John Clayton, Viscount Greystoke, never became the feral child he was in the original Tarzan stories and lived the life that was originally planned for him as an English noble.

The pair are then forced to go on a destiny-altering journey together that culminates with them trading lives. Thus, the natural order of things is restored. Or, at least, as restored as it can be in a universe shared by both Superman and Tarzan.
