10 Most Controversial Superman Comics Of All Time
9. Superdoom - Action Comics #9 (2012)
When DC rebooted under the New 52, visionary writer, Grant Morrison, was put in charge of the Superman series, Action Comics. Morrison may be a genius... but he also has a bit of a temper.
You see, the teaser for Man of Steel was released in July 2012. Morrison noticed the trailer used one of his quotes without his permission. He was so enraged, he wrote a comic the exact same month which encapsulated everything he hated about the movie industry.
His story, Curse of Superman, begins in a parallel universe where Clark Kent, Lois Lane, and Jimmy Olsen created a device which can manifest a physical form of their thoughts. When a corrupt corporation gets hold of the machine to try and create their own Superman, it goes insane and travels to different realities to kill all the "fake" Supermen.
Morrison couldn't have been less subtle with his metaphor. This evil Superman, which is called Superdoom, is described as “a violent, troubled, faceless anti-hero… a global market icon”. Superdoom states himself that he is “an unstoppable killer franchise”.
Readers and publishers were utterly bewildered Morrison jeopardised his run of Superman for such a petty reason.
