10 Most Controversial Superman Comics Of All Time

8. Superman Abandons His Cousin - Action Comics #252-258 (1958)

Superman Wonder Woman
DC Comics

For years, Superman lamented how lonely it was being the only survivor of Krypton. You can imagine how exhilarated he must have been when he discovered his cousin, Kara, survived as well. When she came to Earth, Kara wanted to be a superhero just like her cousin, and took on the name Supergirl.

However, Superman believed she needed to train in order to harness her powers before she could reveal herself publicly, which does make perfect sense.

Too bad nothing else does in this story. Until Kara reveals her existence to the world, Superman left her in an orphanage. Why didn't he leave her in his house or in the Fortress of Solitude is anyone's guess.

Also, he didn't leave her there for a few weeks. She was in the orphanage for years! But it gets worse. After Supergirl revealed her powers to Superman's dog, Krypto, her cousin abandoned her on a remote asteroid.

It's odd how Superman complains how lonely he is but when he finally meets someone from his world, he does everything in his power to drive them away.
