Apokolips was one large planet-wide city that emerged after the death of the Old Gods and the birth of the New Gods. It shared its relative universal space with its brighter sister planet of New Genesis and the only way to reach either world was through a Boom Tube. The planet was held by the despotic iron will of Darkseid, whose people worship him as a god. Darkseid leaves most of the day-to-day runny of the planet to his chief torturer, DeSaad.

The lower population, called “The Lowlies”, slaved daily to keep the enormous fire pits that fuel the planet burning. Flying parademons or soldiers riding gigantic dogs enforced Darkseid’s absolute rule. People were indoctrinated from childhood in one of Granny Goodness’ orphanages where lessons were brutal and failure was deadly. The best female “graduates” might be able to join The Female Furies, Granny’s elite army of assassins.

There was no joy on Apokolips. There was nothing to see there but desolation. Laughter was outlawed. Individuality was nonexistent. A small resistance and a few escapees had offered a fleeting hope but there was only one truth on Apokolips: Darkseid is.
