10 Most Disastrous Comic Book Misprints
7. Hulk #219: That's Not How You Use A Periscope
For the uninitiated, Captain Barracuda is an intelligent weapons expert and a lover of insanely complex technology. He also wears an eye patch, because he’s a pirate and all pirates wear eye patches. For those reasons alone, you’d think that Captain Barracuda knows how to use a periscope. You’d think wrong.
Hulk #219 features a hilarious misprint that has Captain Barracuda totally unaware of his own limitations as a pirate. And a human person. Not for anything he says, not for any speech bubbles that were printed incorrectly, but for a stupid drawing error that no one realized.
Yes, in Hulk #219, Captain Barracuda is looking through a periscope with the only eye he cannot see through – the one covered by the eye patch. Really, it was a 50-50 chance at looking through it with the correct eye and he got it wrong. Unless we blame the artist instead, in which case, he still had a 50-50 chance at drawing it properly and got it wrong.
From there we can blame everyone else involved because the issue was published and no one thought it mattered that everything Captain Barracuda did since the periscope incident shouldn’t count for anything.
