8. Gave Himself A Facelift
When DC relaunched all of their comics under the New 52 banner, they redesigned most of their flagship characters for a new era. Never one to be left out, the Joker organised a facelift of his own: he had the Dollmaker surgically remove his face, just so he could staple it back on a year later.
Why did the Joker do this? His motivations are very unclear. While some think it was purely to give artist Greg Capullo something cool to draw, others believe Joker was jealous of Batman's dual identities and wanted to create a mask of his own. When he couldn't think of a design more iconic than his own face, he decided to turn that into a mask in itself.
In fairness to Joker, aside from mentally scarring a few readers with a horrific image, tearing his own face off was an act that really hurt nobody but himself. Maybe he's not such a jerk after all...?
