10 Most Emotional Wolverine Moments

5. Death Of Mariko Yashida

Wolverine death
Marvel Comics

Alongside Jean Grey and Kayla SIlverfox, Mariko Yashida is one of Wolverine's mainstay love interests in comics ("Mainstay", of course, meaning repeated, as Wolverine's lovers die more often than not).

Across forty years of comics, Wolverine has had to live with the grief of the loss of many lovers, but no death haunts him quite as much as that of Mariko Yashida in 1992's Wolverine #57.

The doomed woman died on the couple's wedding night, after being poisoned. She begged Wolverine to kill her to end the pain sooner, as she would die inevitably. So, in an act of tremendous love and sacrifice, Wolverine grants his lover's dying wish.

This traumatises Wolverine for years to come, and in an act of vengeance, he pays an annual visit to the poisoner and cuts off a body part every time, in an attempt to try to make him feel the same pain he inflicted upon the clawed crusader.

Definitely one of the darker moments in Wolverine's history, this is also one of his most emotional.
