10 Most Emotional Wolverine Moments
2. Death Of Jean Grey (Dark Phoenix)
As aforementioned, the Dark Phoenix Saga is the most iconic and influential X-Men story ever published, and its impact on the character of Wolverine was immense.
There are few things as painful as watching the hero come to terms with the death of the woman he'd loved since he joined the X-Men: Jean Grey. Countless adaptations in TV and film have been unable to capture the raw emotion and grief at Jean (i.e. Phoenix)'s death.
The event shaped Wolverine as a character for years to come, not only shaped the face of the X-Men for years to come, but changed the comics industry for years to come, paving the way for more deaths and darker themes in future comics.
The event has been retold twice in film, yet neither come anywhere close to the devastation fans felt when reading the comic. Even the 1990s animated X-Men show did arguably a better job of adapting the Dark Phoenix Saga than the two films.
The most heart-wrenching moment of the darkest and best X-Men story arc ever told will forever remain a huge blow to the fans, but more so, to the man who was most devastated by Jean Grey's death: The Wolverine.
