9. Transformers: All Hail Megatron
IDW has done some solid work with Transformers. Solid story telling and good, emotional character work. All Hail Megatron was shaping up to be the best of the best. I was collecting alternate covers (something I rarely do) because I thought it was just the coolest of the cool. At the get go, Megatron wins. He takes NY and everyone is lost in a panic. It was awesome. You think that maybe every once in a blue moon, the bad guy wins one. Sure the good guys come back around eventually, but letting it play out for a good while that the Autobots have finally been defeated would be a cool new way to add some serious drama. But then the story lost its momentum and thing just started happening for the sake of happening. Then we find out, it's sort of IDW's way of rebooting a lot of their Universe. Ah ha! (Oh, we'll come back to this idea later.) And all that was set up as the most daunting task for the Autobots became the simplest point A to B victory I've ever seen in which they come back to Earth with the aid of the conveniently appearing Omega Supreme and lay down the law to the Decepticons. When the character titled "Omega Supreme" is what shows up and acts as your Disneyland fast pass to victory, you know you used him to write your way out of a corner.
