In Deadpool Team-Up #883, by Skottie Young and Ramon Perez, Deadpool is broke. Hundreds of thousands of dollars in debt, in large part because of his guinea pig budget, Wade has to begin cold-calling supervillains to see if any of them need an assassin. Despite calling Kingpin, Doctor Doom, Magneto, and others, none of them will hire the Merc and he is forced to look in the want ads.

After deciding against pursuing a job as an assistant editor at Marvel, Deadpool comes across an ad for a “Herald.” By saying the word, he is transported in front of Galactus in deep space and endowed with the Power Cosmic to serve as the Devour of Worlds advance man to locate the planets for him to devour and to inform any indigenous lifeforms of their impending fate.

At first, Wade excelled at the job, taking great glee at finding planets and shooting the inhabitants with blasts from his hands. But Deadpool’s constant and inane chatter about everything from what they were going to do that weekend to scenes from “Friends” caused Galactus to scream “Shut Up” repeatedly and told Wilson to get out of his sight. He briefly engaged in a violent battle with the Silver Surfer before realizing he was outmatched and retiring. He was last seen at a support group for former Heralds of Galactus.
