7. The Peculiar Romance Between Matrix Supergirl And Lex Luthor

Supergirl and the Red Lanterns
DC Comics

Superhero/villain romances are not that common in the medium, but they do happen from time to time. From Batman and Catwoman, to Spider-Man and Black Cat, some crimefighters are able to have compelling and healthy relationships with their foes.

Unfortunately for comics readers in the '90s, that was decidedly not the case with the Matrix version of Supergirl and longtime Superman foe, Lex Luthor. After leaving her home universe following its destruction, Matrix settled on Earth and immediately got the attention of Lex Luthor Jr. (who was just the usual Lex inhabiting a younger, much hairier clone's body).

It was only a matter of time before the shapeshifting being and villainous billionaire fell for each other, much to Superman's ire. The Metropolis Marvel tried to convince Matrix that her newfound romance was an awful idea, but his pleas fell on deaf ears.

Naturally, Kal's concerns proved to be right once it was revealed that Lex was harvesting Matrix's genetic material for his own nefarious goals. This expectedly angered the super-being and she left Luthor before their unusual romance could continue.
