10 Most Intense Comic Books Of All Time

7. Secret Wars #4

Captain America Iron Man Civil War
Marvel Comics

If you want to talk about an intense storyline, all you need to do is drop a mountain on the Hulk! Secret Wars #4 continued Marvel's massive crossover event by placing most of its heroes in a no-win situation that looked as if it might be the end for all of them.

Fortunately, the Hulk was with everyone when the Molecule Man decided to pick up a nearby mountain and drop it on the heroes. While it looked as if they were immediately killed, it turned out the Hulk was holding up the entirety of the mountain's mass with his strength.

It took the mind of Mister Fantastic, Hawkeye's trick arrows, Spider-Man's web-shooters, and the powers of the Human Torch and Captain Marvel to channel energy into Iron Man's armor to break the superheroes free from the mountain.

This issue was one of the best of the entire Secret Wars run, predominantly because of the peril that threatened the superheroes. You can't get much more intense than Bob Layton's cover image of the Hulk hoisting up a mountain, but the story inside matches up rather well.
