10 Most Intense Comic Books Of All Time

6. Invincible #12

To be fair, there aren't many issues of Robert Kirkman's Invincible series that aren't incredibly intense. The book often features massive battles between godlike superheroes and villains resulting in some rather bloody gore.

People are torn in half or have their heads smashed in all the time, but there was one issue far more difficult to read than any other, but not because it wasn't beautifully drawn or well-written, it was due to the events that took place.

Invincible #12 finally saw the battle between Mark and his father, Nolan, otherwise known as Omni-Man. After Nolan revealed his true purpose on Earth and the fact that he killed the other superheroes he had worked with for years, Mark didn't take it well and the two got into a fight.

This wasn't a little fight either, thousands of people were killed in the destruction their battle caused, but the real drama came at the fight's conclusion. Nolan left his son bloody and beaten on the ground before flying off and leaving Earth. It was a great twist for the series, but also one that was necessary to set forth the storylines that would evolve to make Invincible the amazing series it is.
