10 Most Interesting Marvel Superhero Teams You've Never Heard Of

2. Agents Of Atlas

Midnight Sons
Marvel Comics

The Agents of Atlas started life as a What If? tale exploring what would have happened if the Avengers had been formed using characters from the 1950's. The concept was revived decades later as part of the main Marvel continuity.

Agent Jimmy Woo of SHIELD formed the team by recruiting the heroes Gorilla-Man (an adventurer who was magically transformed into a gorilla), the Uranian Marvel Boy, mythical siren Venus, Namor's cousin Namora and the robot M-11 to investigate the mysterious Atlas Foundation (Named after Marvel's predecessor Atlas Comics).

The team discovered that the Foundation was actually run by Woo's archenemy, the supervillain Yellow Claw. Claw revealed that he was actually a nearly immortal Mongol khan and that he had been testing Woo over the years to one day be his replacement. Woo accepted and Claw, having found an heir, committed suicide. However, Woo used his position to turn the Atlas Foundation into a force for good and hired his team to act as secret agents for the company.

The Agents of Atlas haven't really appeared much since then, only making sporadic appearances during big Marvel events. Members like Namora and Gorilla-Man have popped up in other books though and presumeably the group is still active.
