4. Captain Marvel's Son Is Also Her Lover

With the impending release of Captain Marvel, there’s one thing that’s for certain – her lover and technical son, Marcus, is sure to be completely absent.

The comic he stars in – the 1980 Avengers #200 – is almost infamous at this point for its nasty plotline. Essentially, Marcus kidnapped Marvel – then known as Ms. Marvel – mind controlled her to think she loved him, and then used her feelings to ‘implant his essence in her’. It’s worth noting that’s not a euphemism – he literally places his spirit inside her.

Now, you might be thinking this is all super messed up - but it’s all okay, apparently, because Marcus did try to ‘woo’ her – he just gave up and used his father’s mind control machine in the end. Which makes it romantic. Apparently.

Is it concerning that he refers to her as ‘my love’ and ‘mother’ within sentences? You bet. Do they still somehow end up a couple? You bet. The 1980s were weird.
