10 Most OVERRATED Comics Of All Time

Garth Ennis's Preacher has regularly been featured on "Best Comics Of All Time" lists and is regularly held on a pedestal by fans, especially when compared to AMC's television adaptation starring Dominic Cooper, Joseph Gilgun, and Ruth Negga.

However, almost every problem that fans have with the show (apart from the usual childish complaints like "this character looks different" or "this didn't happen exactly the way it did in the comics") are actually true of the comic as well. It's childish in places, seemingly obsessed with gore and sensationalism for the sake of checking the boxes that will give it some form of easy notoriety.

Much of this is the style of the era, but it simply means that Preacher has not aged anywhere near as well as it could have. And then there's the fact that, for all its world-ending implications, the more personal story of love and friendship is infinitely more interesting than the overarching framing and main story devices.
