10 Most Powerful Beings Thor Has Defeated
7. Surtur - Mighty Thor #21 (2012)
Surtur the Fire Giant has served as the ruler of the fiery realm of Muspelheim for eons. He is deemed as Asgard's greatest enemy and one of Thor's nemeses since the mountain-sized molten monstrosity slayed the god of thunder's father and All-Father, Odin.
Although Thor sought vengeance upon his father's murderer, the Golden Avenger knew he would stand no chance against the demonic deity. Even though Asgardians can wade through fire or lava with little effect, Surtur's unholy flame can incinerate absolutely anything. His fire is so potent, he was able to burn Yggdrasil the World Tree; the core of Asgard and the foundation of all reality.
When the fire god declared war on The Nine Realms, Thor vowed to put a stop to his tyranny once and for all. Fusing the indestructible Twilight Sword with Mjolnir, the storm god impaled Surtur through the neck, killing him.
Although comic book villains (especially supernatural ones) have a tendency to resurrect themselves every fortnight or so, Surtur has been dead and buried for eight years and thus, has been perceived as one of Thor's greatest triumphs.
