10 Most Powerful Characters Killed By Captain America

4. Machinesmith - Captain America #249

Captain America Magneto
Marvel Comics

One of the most somber entries on this list, Captain America's desperate attempt to apprehend the cyborg villain Machinesmith (Samuel Saxon) led to the criminal's demise. What makes this particular instance grim is that Machinesmith was looking for a means to end his life, due to the painful nature of his abilities.

In the past, Saxon came into conflict with the likes of the X-Men, Fantastic Four and Daredevil and in one confrontation with the Man Without Fear, the villain broke his neck and was forced to live in one of his mechanical bodies. This greatly troubled Saxon, and as a result, he sought to end his life.

In a 1980 storyline, Machinesmith (while working with the likes of the Red Skull) captured Steve in order to drain the hero of his powers. During this struggle, a repowered Rogers fought off the cyborg's drones and destroyed the central computer housing Saxon's consciousness in an attempt to stop the cyborg from fleeing.

However, this did not play out as Cap expected because it led to Saxon's demise, a conclusion that the wrongdoer had been seeking for a long time.
