Although lacking his comic counterpart's more varied energy-based abilities, the MCU incarnation of Thanos was easily one of the franchise's most intimidating villains. His physical attributes enabled him to overwhelm heavy hitters such as Thor and Hulk, take multiple attacks from Captain Marvel and Scarlet Witch, and wield the Infinity Stones with relatively little damage.

This immense power, coupled with his cunning, skill and experience justified his role as the MCU's Big Bad and the franchise's one villain whose actions were both victorious and long-lasting. While his Endgame variant did not have the Infinity Stones at all times, he still made great efforts in securing the powerful gems and necessitating the assembly of nearly every MCU hero in the franchise up until that point.
