10 Most Ridiculous Things Batman Has Survived
3. Zero Year
Only in comic books could any mere mortal last more than a year in the shoes of the Dark Knight. Take Scott Snyder’s Zero Year arc for instance, in which, among other injuries, the young Bruce Wayne suffers a broken skull at the hands of the monstrously terrifying Dr. Death.
The inexperienced Wayne was at the mercy of the hideous beast, who had his oversized hand firmly clamped around Bats' entire head and was surely moments away from finishing the job. Gotham would never have had its customed guardian blossom into the full-on Dark Knight we came to know and love had good old then-Sergeant Jim Gordon not stepped in, shooting Death at the last possible moment.
This doesn’t kill Dr. Death, mind, merely scaring him off, as Bruce - not in costume - is attended to by Gordon and subsequently treated medically. The event would serve the young vigilante as an important step on the steep learning curve he was on, learning to deal with the different challenges Gotham’s myriad of villains presented, as he recovered from his fracture.
