10 Most Ridiculous Things Spider-Man Has Survived

4. Being Replaced By Doc Ock - Dying Wish

From writer Dan Slott, 2012's Dying Wish was a hugely popular tale, selling a large number of books and picking up the attention of those who weren't necessarily buying each and every Spider-book of the day.

Of course, the main reason for Dying Wish ending up on the radars of so many people, is that the story featured the shocking twist of Otto Octavius taking over the body of Peter Parker.

Terminally ill, Otto managed to pull off an insane scheme which saw the rogue exchange consciousnesses with Parker - meaning Octavius' mind was in Spider-Man's body, and Peter's mind was now housed in the decaying, dying body of Doctor Octopus.

What was most shocking about all of this, is that Marvel Comics actually kept Ock's wall-crawler - who Otto christened the 'Superior' Spider-Man - around for a good chunk of time.

Having seen the errors of his villainous ways, the Octavius incarnation of Spidey was eager to prove himself as being a greater Spider-Man than Peter Parker ever was. To reiterate to fans that this was more than your usual bait and switch, Dying Wish actually brought an end to the 50-year run of The Amazing Spider-Man, with that title coming to an end after 700 issues.

In its place, The Superior Spider-Man launched as a new comic book title, with Ock remaining as the friendly neighbourhood hero for the majority of that book's 44-issue run - eventually deciding to allow Peter to take back control of his own body in order to stop Norman Osborn during the Goblin Nation arc.
