10 Most Ridiculously Overpowered Superheroes In The DC Universe

7. Doctor Fate

There have been many to take up the role of Doctor Fate, but we're going to go with the Kent Nelson incarnation, both because he served as DC's resident magician for the longest and because his origin involves a monkey in a Sherlock Holmes outfit called Detective Chimp. Doctor Fate isn't particularly well known, so we'll just say up top - to illustrate his ridiculous overpowering - that he once intervened in a war between the two rulers of Hell, and managed to stop them destroying the universe. And that was one of his first missions, having previously been a homeless person. Which is as much down to the tenacity of Nelson as it is the powers being Doctor Fate bestows upon him, but they're still some pretty natty powers. Even without his helmet he can fly, has superhuman strength and invulnerability, and low-level telekinesis. When he sticks that golden bucket on his bonce, though, Kent Nelson becomes one of the most powerful beings in the DC Universe. He can fire lightning bolts, Zeus-style; he can produce objects out of thin air, the limits of which have never really been tested; he can teleport to anywhere in the cosmos; he can control people's minds; he even destroyed an entire alternate reality once. That's nothing to be trifled with. If we're gonna return to that "who would win in a fight" thing, too, then theoretically Doctor Fate could totally own Superman if they went mano-a-mano, considering the Man of Steel's natural weakness to magic. If it weren't for the necessity of wearing the helmet, cape and magical amulet at all times to retain his powers, Kent Nelson could be the most formidable hero in DC Comics. As it is, he's still pretty ridiculously overpowered. At least he doesn't have Doctor Strange's goofy facial hair.
