Brad Meltzer’s grim and controversial Identity Crisis saga revolves around a series of increasingly unpleasant reveals regarding several past mysteries haunting the Justice League. In the wake of Elongated Man’s wife Sue being found murdered while Elongated Man was on patrol, the League discover a deeply disturbing secret, Sue was raped by Doctor Light in the JLA headquarters and several major heroes subsequently had their memories of the event erased.

Filled to the brim with plot twists and B-tier character deaths, Identity Crisis ultimately reveals The Atom’s ex-wife, Jean Loring, as the culprit behind it all, irreparably damaging the League and its secrets that she had once been entrusted with. Saddest of all is that her murder of Sue Dibny was accidental and her actions were a deeply flawed (and totally insane) strategy to get her shrinking ex, The Atom, back in her arms.

The ramifications of Identity Crisis continued to be felt in numerous major DC stories to follow, including Infinite Crisis.
