10 Most Shocking Female Comic Costumes Of All Time
5. The New 52 Sexy-Time Starfire
When Starfire debuted in The New Teen Titans #1 (1980), her original costume was pretty scandalous. George Pérez was responsible for the characters design, and he chose to put the alien princess in a revealing one piece. When the character was introduced as a character on the popular 2000s Teen Titans cartoon, her costume was redesigned and made appropriate for the shows age demographic. Meanwhile in comic book land, Starfires mono-tard continued to shrink until you guessed it The New 52 reboot! Similar to Harley Quinn, The New 52 was not particularly kind to Starfire. DC decided to put her on a team with Red Hood and Arsenal called the Outlaws so she could fuel serve as a sexual partner for both of them at different times. At various times throughout the book, Starfire was depicted in the most sexualised poses possible, showing off every inch her costume didnt cover. DC really screwed the pooch on this one. Right around the time they rolled out The New 52, they also resurrected the Teen Titans TV show in the form of Teen Titans Go!. It remains a mystery to this day why DC chose to use a shocking, hyper sexualised version of Starfire for The New 52, when they could have used a version similar to her more popular TV incarnation. They would have been able to appeal to the practically untapped female demographic and make boat loads of money. But hey sex sells, right?
Since childhood, Bryant has been an avid fan of superheroes, and he has been reading comic books since 2006. His full name is "George Bryant Lucas"; however, after enduring countless Darth Vader jokes, he has chosen to go by his middle name. Born and raised in the United States, Bryant is currently living with his lovely wife in the country side of Wiltshire County, UK. Bryant does suffer from a mild case of dyslexia; misspellings and homonyms are to be expected on occasion.
