10 Most Underrated Superman Villains

3. Ruin

Superman Unchained Silver Banshee
DC Comics

For many years, Emil Hamilton was a respected scientist and friend of Superman. But when he learned the Kryptonian's presence on Earth was draining the Sun of its solar energy, Hamilton turned on his former ally and adopted the persona of Ruin.

Despite his lack of powers, Ruin proved to be one of the most adaptable and resourceful foes Superman had ever faced. His armoured suit is powered by red sunlight, amplifying his strength and reflexes.

Because Superman can only maintain his strength under a yellow sun, his power is diminished while in Ruin's presence. Ruin also uses Phantom Zone technology to teleport anywhere in the world in an instant. On top of that, his armour has a built-in bomb that can level a small city if removed from Hamilton's body.

But Ruin's greatest skill is misdirection. Because his identity was a mystery for months, Hamilton had Clark Kent's friend, Pete Ross, framed as Ruin so Superman would waste time trying to clear his name.

Even though Lex Luthor is considered the most dangerous Superman villain to possess no superpowers, Ruin may be a close second.
