10 Most Violent Comic Book Heroes Ever

7. Spawn - Image

Having debuted back in 1992, Spawn is arguably the most powerful superhero of anyone featured on this list.

Albert Simmons was born in Detroit to a devil worshipper and, after a brief spell in the US Marine Corps and US Secret Service, became a highly capable assassin working with the CIA. After a failed mission in Botswana however, Albert was killed and sent to hell for his acts as a killer.

Taking up residence in New York City, Spawn finds a new life in taking on the foulest parts of the city's underworld. From high profile Italian mob bosses, down to even the pettiest of criminals, no one is safe from feeling the wrath of Spawn's hyper-aggressive way of dispatching justice.

Given the fact that he's a being that is essentially living in limbo, hunting for an existence in most stories, and that he's lost everyone and everything from a past life, it's understandable as to why Spawn has so much anger and resentment in the way he operates.

Whether it's through ripping a guy's head clean off, or a deep psychological war, Spawn's superhero status really does come with a pretty hefty asterisk.
