Simply put, the Knightfall storyline is an absolute classic. Spanning hundreds of separate issues and a good chunk of the mid-90s Batman: Knightfall is one of the largest Batman storylines to date. The full arc is split into three distinct parts Knightall, Knightsquest and Knightsend.

Knightfall watches legendary tactician, Bane, wear down Batman by breaking out his Rogues Gallery from Arkham Asylum, resulting in the classic splash page panel of Bane breaking an exhausted Batman over his knee. Following these events, a deranged crusader of the Order of St Dumas - Jean Paul Valley (aka Azrael) takes the mantle of Batman in Knightsquest. The third and final part of the arc, Knightsend, sees Batman return to strength to take back his helm from the now lunatic AzBats.

The Knightfall run is Batman comics at its finest. Book after book of “villain of the week” issues with sublime 90s artwork. It is also worth mentioning this series was an extremely key influence for the movie The Dark Knight Rises, as were more stories in this list for the rest of the fantastic Dark Knight trilogy by Christopher Nolan.
