9. Messiah Complex

In a world where people can read your thoughts, shoot optic beams out of their eyes and control the weather, you wouldn't think one newborn baby would cause such raucous. However, that's the case during the Messiah Complex storyline and it's completely understandable.

Following on from the previous page where I talked about the House of M, this is the story that focuses on the fallout of that. The mutant population has been decreased significantly for some reason and they're pretty much a race on the cusp of extinction. The X-Men are barely hanging on to hope until, for the first time in a long time, there is a sign of a mutant birth deep in the heart of Alaska. What follows is a drawn out battle and search for the child who could hold the key to the survival of the human race and what a ride it is.

The best part about this storyline is how many characters there are in it, which is usually a strange thing to say about a comic book. Everyone has an agenda and a goal they won't stop until they achieve it, which makes it an incredibly thrilling ride all the way up until the end.
